Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. In 1967 Mitchell started her job as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was promoted to chief of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell was a host as well as a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection from the infringement of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell worked in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the time of Ronald Reagan's two term as president. She reported on a number of noteworthy events including arms control, budget tax reforms and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
